Contemporary Jewellery CAD Designer
Dong Ding is an award-winning contemporary jewellery Artist, designer & maker who is currently a PhD Researcher at Edinburgh College of Art at The University of Edinburgh, graduated from Edinburgh College of Art at The University of Edinburgh with his MFA degree and School of Jewellery in Birmingham City University for his BA degree.
As a contemporary jewellery artist, his practice involves diversified materials, technologies and forms, engaging with engineering principles to create kinetic jewellery works that interact with audiences. His works have won multiple awards including the GCDC Awards (AKA Jewellery Oscar), and the Scottish Gemmological Association, among others, and engaging with exhibitions and fashion shows worldwide. His work was also collected by The University of Edinburgh Art Collection and in collaborated with Google Art & Culture Project.
As a design researcher in contemporary jewellery, his interest includes research-through-design, craft as a design methodology and cross-disciplinary in craft and design. His PhD research aims to establish a definition and framework for cross-disciplinary jewellery, exploring its collaborative creation and the transformation of shared knowledge throughout the process. His academic work has already been recognized and selected for exhibition and conference paper publications at the VINCI 2023, the EAD 2023 and the DRS 2024.
